caught in existence

2014

Self-portraiture is not a new phenomenon in art. It is a strong and self-revelatory way of exploring a topic or phenomenon aesthetically.

In this series, the artist uses her own body to explore the phenomenon of conscious bodily self-harm. The artist suffers from eating disorder and reveals her naked body in uncomfortable positions to the spectator.

The pictures are taken in an an empty, cold, dark building, which comes to represent the eating disorder as a mental prison that keeps the body imprisoned.

You can never escape the building, merely learn to live in it.
